7 REASONS OBAMA SHOULD BE WORRIED

Obama’s on vacation in his home state of Hawaii this week, presumably to recharge his batteries for the long muddy road to November 4th.
We hope he has time to read this piece by Glenn Thrush of the Politico, outlining 7 reasons that Obama & his supporters should remain worried about his chances for winning.
A “Cliff’s Notes” version of the list:
7 WORRISOME SIGNS FOR OBAMA

1. Race. Until the polls close on November 4th, no one knows exactly what kind of a factor Obama’s “non-whiteness” will play among most of the electorate. Much more on that here.

2. Virginia may be for lovers, but Obama does not have it locked up, despite the current conventional wisdom.

3. Ditto Michigan, where voters are almost divided down the middle. McCain’s in play, more so if he chooses Mitt Romney for his running mate.

4. This sounds counterintuitive, but if the economy goes from bad to worse to downright terrifying - voters will choose the “safer” candidate.. meaning it helps McCain. Read more on that here.

5. Libertarian party candidate Bob Barr is no Ross Perot. At this point in the 1992 election, Perot was polling in the double digits. Barr may have an impact in Georgia, but nowhere near on the national scale that would benefit Obama. Read a comparison here.

6. No non-southern Democrat has won the White House since 1960. See a good analysis (from a month ago) of how McCain & Obama are polling in the south here.

7. The American electorate may be alarmed at the prospect of one-party rule in Washington & vote GOP to keep a Democratic Congress in balance. Here’s a blog devoted to this cause, called “Divided We Stand, United We Fall.”
