Whoa! This is the 500th post of Vote08! I’m glad it happened on 8/8/08, too!
It’s been quite a year already, & we aren’t even to the conventions yet. I realize many of you have not been following the presidential election as closely as I have since this blog started in January, but that’s okay! Those of you who have visited here regularly, I appreciate your input, feedback, & attention!
Here’s a look at some of what I consider this blog’s “greatest hits.”

We debuted the Vote08 blog on January 23rd, the day that Fred Thompson announced he was withdrawing as a candidate for president. (Exit, Stage Right). Just because he dropped out didn’t mean we stopped paying attention to what he’s doing.

Back in February, we covered the visits of two presidential candidates to Chattanooga, John Edwards & Mike Huckabee (yes, that is Chuck Norris with the Huck).

Also in February, we helped you make decisions with pieces that endorsed & unendorsed each candidate.. & we live-blogged the Super Tuesday results as they came in.
Soon after Super Tuesday when it became apparent that McCain would be the GOP nominee, we offered some hard advice for Republicans who found him hard to swallow.

There’s no doubt that this year represents an uphill climb for Republicans. We’ve delved into what the GOP can do- but also shouldn’t do - to win this year here, here, here, here, here, here, & here.

On February 9th, we covered to the Hamilton County Democratic Delegate Convention.
A February 12th post that remains one of this blog’s most-viewed is the one where we separated fact from fiction about Barack Obama’s background, religion, & patriotism - it also includes a primer for dealing with rumors you hear about in e-mails.
On Valentine’s Day, we declared our love in a poem dedicated to each remaining candidate .. but got over it the next day.

We were listening when Tennessee Senator (& former Chattanooga mayor) Bob Corker gave a somewhat tepid endorsement for McCain.

We’ve had a lot to say about the war in Iraq & the struggle against terrorism:
How Each Party’s Candidates Are Misleading You on Iraq (February 1st)
5 YEARS IN IRAQ: WHY WE’RE WINNING, WHY WE’RE LOSING (March 19th)
SHADES OF GRAY INSTEAD OF BLACK & WHITE (April 2nd)
A CALL FOR SACRIFICE WE (& THE CANDIDATES) CAN’T AFFORD TO IGNORE (April 11th)
NUANCE TAKES ANOTHER HIT (June 11th)
We’ve interviewed, among others, Congressman Zach Wamp, Author David Abshire, & Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen.

We took our own network to task for dragging the Democratic debate down into the gutter (April 17th).

We also made several attempts at humor:
TOP 5 PRESIDENTIAL TICKETS YOU DEFINITELY WON’T SEE THIS YEAR (April 11th)
THE COVETED FONZIE ENDORSEMENT (May 1st)
I’d love to link more.. but the fact is I’ve got two newscasts to write! I hope you have enjoyed reading the Vote08 blog as much as I have enjoyed bringing it to you. As always, feedback is encouraged, & I hope I have another 500 under my belt before election day!
