Details of the historic meeting here.

Obama & Clinton met in private at California Senator Diane Feinstein’s home last night.

The two issued a rare joint statement that said:

“Senator Obama & Senator Clinton did have occasion to meet this evening. It’s the end of the primary process. They wanted to talk about bringing these campaigns together in unity.”

& now we get this from the AP:

WASHINGTON (AP) - A few details are coming out about the secret meeting between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.
Senator Dianne Feinstein (FYN’-styn) says the two met at her home last night. They arrived separately, and the California Democrat says she took them to her living room, where she left them seated in “two comfortable chairs facing one another”
Feinstein says no one else was present.
About 10 o’clock, the two presidential candidates emerged laughing from the hour-long meeting. Feinstein says at that point she said “good night” and “that was it.”
This morning, Clinton’s campaign announced she would deliver a formal endorsement of Obama at noon tomorrow in Washington and urge Democrats to unite behind his candidacy.
Feinstein supported Clinton throughout the primaries. She says it was the former first lady who called yesterday afternoon to ask for the use of the house. Feinstein describes Obama as “very gracious” about setting up the meeting, saying he would go “wherever, whenever” Clinton wanted.

Funniest part of this whole event: the travelling press corps totally got punk’d:

Note the hostile tone in the questions. Fun-ny.

_vote08blog2.jpgSo what’s going on?

Do you think she’s interested in the VP spot?

I would guess no. This article backs that theory up, which says

“The meeting followed Clinton’s disavowal hours earlier of efforts by some supporters who have urged Obama to choose her as his running mate.

“She is not seeking the vice presidency, and no one speaks for her but her,” communications director Howard Wolfson said. “The choice here is Senator Obama’s and his alone.”"

Dick Cheney notwithstanding, it would seem to me that Clinton would much prefer to keep her post in the Senate rather than take an office that one holder once described as “not worth a bucket of warm [spit].” Obama has no reason whatsoever to put her on the ticket — seriously, would you if you were him? It seems very unlikely that this will happen.

& this is not going to be welcome news to her supporters, who continue to feel she was robbed by the media & a “male-dominated” society or whatever. Click here to see several women scorned - be forewarned of abundant ALL CAPS.

I have long considered myself a feminist. & I truly believe that farther down the road those who say it’s time for a woman in the White House will thank their lucky stars Hillary wasn’t the first. The woman has proven herself far too entrenched in situational ethics — pandering to whomever will help her to victory. I happen to not believe sexism was the prime reason she was defeated — how do you explain her support among so many men in Ohio, West Virginia, Texas, Pennsylvania, etc.? No, Clinton clearly paved a new road this year that will make it far, far easier for future women to tread.

Her main sin was similar to that of President Bush’s concerning the Iraq war: not planning ahead. Prior planning prevents poor performance. As late as late December, she made the claim that “we’re in it for the long haul, all the way through February 5th.” Also like Bush, she also valued loyalty above competence, to her detriment. Disagree with me if you like, but this is not the kind of person who deserves to shatter the “ultimate glass ceiling.”

One more quick note:

hillary-nutcracker-3.jpg

…about these things.

Many of Hillary’s supporters cited them as a reason why “she’ll never get ahead in this man’s world.”

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Do you know what Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meir or Indira Ghandi (all “first female” heads of state) would have done if someone had created items like this in their likeness? They would have laughed & bought a case & given them out to their best friends.
