Very interesting NBC/Wall Street Journal Poll out today about what the current campaign’s biggest political albatrosses are at the moment (what do I mean by “albatross?” click here). In other words, what could be a “dealbreaker” for voters with any particular candidate.
We’ll dive into the details after the jump… you may be surprised which candidate has the biggest liability.. & what it comes from.
2008’s TOP ALBATROSSES, ACCORDING TO NBC/WALL STREET JOURNAL VOTER POLL
President George W. Bush & McCain’s ‘closeness’ with his policies (43%)
![]()
Hillary Clinton’s apparent flip-flops (36%)
![]()
Barack Obama’s “bitter/guns/religion” remarks (34%)
![]()
Obama’s relationship with Jeremiah Wright (32%)
![]()
Hillary Clinton’s lack of honesty/trustworthiness (31%)
![]()
Bill Clinton having too much influence in policy decisions (27%)
![]()
Barack Obama not being patriotic enough (17%)
![]()
John McCain being too old to be president (16%)
So try as Republicans might to have the electorate move on, it appears the presidency of George W. Bush still is a major factor in voters decisions. Chuck Todd at MSNBC’s First Read goes on to say:
“When you add that Bush problem to other macro-political trends — just 27% approve of Bush’s job (his lowest mark ever in the survey), just 15% think the country is on the right track, 81% believe the country is in a recession — that’s quite a head wind McCain and the Republicans are facing. So while the political world might beat the Wright issue to death or parse every little thing Bill says, let’s not forget overall dynamics of this presidential election.”
