ARE YOU REMEMBERING IRAQ?

Yesterday’s news of the death of Marine Lance Corporal James Michael Gluff, of Tunnel Hill, Georgia gives us all a reminder that though it seems to have moved off of the front pages — and from the tops of minds of American voters — the war in Iraq still affects us all, and should be one of your considerations in choosing our next president. While the economy’s recent downturn looks to be the “top issue” of the campaign, you owe it to your country to continue to pay attention to what’s happening in Iraq, and to think about how we can move forward.

In the coming days, Vote08 will look at how each candidate views the current situation in Iraq and what will be needed to achieve success. Doing that will ensure that soldiers & Marines like Lance Corporal Gluff will not have died in vain.

There are so many issues on the table for this election, however I have a nephew going to Iraq at the end of Feb. so it is in the forefront of our minds in my family. Myself and my family have been following the debates very closely so that we can make an informed decision when we cast our votes. I hope that a lot of people here in Tennessee are doing the same. The War in Iraq has to come to an end on our part(our Government and president). We cannot solve the problems of the world because we are not God all we can do is to help facilitate change in Iraq, and it is not a war that will end anytime soon. I believe there is a religious war going besides the politics of oil etc.., I am proud of all the men and women who have served in Iraq. But its time to come home so that we can better serve our own over here in the United States, because we have our own problems of hunger, homelessness, and desperation. We are suppose to be the richest country in the world and yet we seem to forget about our own people over here. The men, women, and children who go without on a daily basis it is truly a shame and I hope that when we are voting here in Tennessee we all look at the whole picture. Thank you!

    Deborah,
Thanks very much for posting this blog’s first-ever comment! Our prayers are with your nephew as he heads overseas. It has to be frustrating to you to have the Iraq story moved off of the front burner for this campaign. I hope it gets the attention it deserves in the coming months.
There is quite a bit of sentiment to get the troops out of Iraq ASAP, but you have to remember that it would take a full two years just to move the equipment out of the country & back to this one. A big problem with that - sand. Getting sand out of military gear will be a huge undertaking. I hope to hear from you again!
